A dermatologist based in Biarritz for over thirty years, Dr. Sylvie Peres is the co-founder of Alaena and the architect of its scientific approach. Her clinical practice, combined with her work on cosmetic toxicology, endocrine disruptors, and the influence of environmental factors on health, has progressively shaped her approach to skin: understanding its biological mechanisms, preserving its balance, and acting without compromising its essential functions.

{ PLUS DE 30 ANS DE PRATIQUE EN DERMATOLOGIE }

Dr. Sylvie Peres trained at the Faculty of Medicine in Bordeaux between 1977 and 1984. She interned at Bordeaux hospitals for five years before defending her Doctor of Medicine thesis in 1991. The same year, she opened her dermatology and aesthetic medicine practice in Biarritz. More than thirty years of clinical practice have allowed her to observe the evolution of skin pathologies, alterations of the skin barrier, the effects of aging and sun exposure, and the influence of environmental factors on skin physiology. She also joined the laser group of the French Society of Dermatology and participated in skin cancer screening campaigns for populations particularly exposed to UV, especially fishermen in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and farmers in the Basque Country. Additionally, she carried out medical missions in India and Senegal. This clinical experience now forms the foundation of the dermatological and scientific approach developed at Alaena.

In the early 2000s, Dr. Sylvie Peres began to specifically study the composition of cosmetic products used daily by her patients. She delved into the scientific literature on endocrine disruptors and, more broadly, on the biological effects associated with repeated exposure to certain chemical substances present in the daily environment. This reflection progressively led her to reconsider the composition of the products she recommended in her dermatological practice. She then developed her own magistral preparations with a constant requirement: to reconcile dermatological efficacy, high tolerance, and rigorous selection of ingredients. These initial formulations were the starting point for the research that would give birth to Alaena. Since then, Dr. Sylvie Peres regularly speaks at conferences and professional meetings on the toxicology of cosmetic ingredients, endocrine disruptors, and the alternatives offered by certified organic cosmetics.

For Dr. Sylvie Peres, skin health cannot be studied independently of the environment to which the body is exposed. She founded and chairs the Coordination Santé Environnement du Pays Basque, an organization committed to studying and raising awareness of the links between health, environment, diet, and exposure to pollutants. Alaena was born from a medical and family inquiry. Observing her children growing up by the ocean, Dr. Sylvie Peres questioned the pollutants present in the environment, their daily contact with the body, and their potential health consequences. With her daughter Anne Peres, an engineer graduated from Centrale Paris, she progressively developed a project combining dermatology, natural science, and biotechnological innovation. The name Alaena combines the first names of her three daughters: Anne, Hélène, and Alaia. From this family story emerges a specific approach to skincare: "living cosmetoloy" (cosmetology of the living). It translates a physiological understanding of the skin into cosmetic formulation: understanding its mechanisms, supporting its biological functions, and respecting its balance. Alaena formulas thus combine natural active ingredients with high skin affinity with biotechnological innovation, with the same requirement: to objectively demonstrate their action on the skin. This approach leads to the development of certified organic dermatological treatments designed to reactivate the skin's natural cycles, support its biological functions, and precisely meet the needs of all skin types.

Research conducted by Alaena has notably led to the development of Complex {G}5®, a patented active ingredient derived from germinated seeds. Germination is a particularly active biological phase. To ensure its development, the seed mobilizes and releases essential micronutrients for its growth, including peptides, vitamins, and antioxidants. From this biological richness, Alaena has developed a complex designed to act in affinity with the skin's biological needs.
