Skin Photoaging: How the Sun Accelerates Skin Aging

Each exposure triggers silent biological mechanisms. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and induce oxidative stress (production of free radicals), a gradual degradation of collagen, and an alteration of cellular functions. Over time, this leads to: a loss of firmness, established wrinkles, and an uneven complexion.

Sun spots are the most visible expression of heli-dermatosis, a skin aging process induced by chronic UV exposure. They result from a dysregulation of melanocytes, whose activity becomes excessive under the effect of UVA, leading to a localized accumulation of melanin. This phenomenon is part of a more global context of photodamage: oxidative stress, DNA alteration, and gradual degradation of the dermal matrix. In other words, spots are not an isolated defect, but the marker of an established biological imbalance.

Skin photoaging is therefore more a question of exposure than a question of age. Skin photoaging does not manifest immediately.
It gradually sets in, under the effect of repeated, often moderate, sun exposure. Result: the skin ages without the signs being immediately perceived. Prevention is based on a single principle: integrating sun protection into a daily routine.
