Do you know your skin type?

Connaissez-vous votre type de peau ?

Combination to oily skin, dry or dehydrated skin, or mature skin—sometimes it's hard to find your way. Discover our dermatologist's advice to determine your skin type and choose a ritual tailored to its needs.

The different skin types

Normal skin

Often associated with ideal skin, this is balanced skin. Normal skin has good blood circulation, a soft, smooth texture, and no blemishes. It has an even complexion, good elasticity, and feels no tightness.

Despite all these advantages, you should not neglect your beauty ritual. Like all skin types, you are subject to external aggressors: pollution, UV rays, cold, wind, etc. Thus, like all other skin types, you must adapt your cleansing by opting for double cleansing and hydrate the skin with suitable care that is neither too light, nor too greasy, nor too abrasive.

Dry skin

It is characterized by feelings of tightness. Dry skin produces less sebum than normal skin. It needs to be nourished and to strengthen its protective barrier. With the decrease in female hormones, skin tends to become dry with age. It becomes less resistant to aggressors because the hydrolipidic film diminishes with the drop in sebum secretion.

Dry skin is thin, fine lines and wrinkles are more pronounced, accentuating the first signs of aging and promoting pigmentation spots, as well as a loss of firmness and radiance.

Don't worry, a careful beauty routine for dry skin allows you to provide the necessary hydration for your skin.

Oily skin

It is recognized by excess sebum, an irregular skin texture, dilated pores, and it may have some blackheads and blemishes.

It is possible to improve these aspects. Regulating the sebum production at the root of the shiny appearance is your first mission. Remember to cleanse your skin every day, hydrate it well, and protect it from the sun; this is essential. The skin should not be aggravated, and it needs hydration like all skin types.

Often associated with adolescence, oily skin is ageless. If you are over 30 and still have blemishes: continue to adopt the beauty routine for combination to oily skin. Rejoice, combination and oily skin types are thicker than dry skin, so wrinkles appear later.

Combination skin

It is distinguished by normal skin on the cheeks and oily skin in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), dilated pores, and some blemishes. Fortunately, suitable care products make life easier for this skin type by providing both hydration and sebum regulation.

You just need to carefully maintain a beauty routine for combination to oily skin in three steps: cleansing, hydration, and protection.

Can't find your skin among the four types mentioned?

Are you sure you aren't confusing skin type, which changes little over time, with phenomena due to an alteration of the skin's barrier function, of external or endogenous origin? Indeed, the skin can evolve according to age, season, sun exposure, but also hormonal changes. Thus, we speak more in terms of primary concerns, which can vary over time.

Main concerns

Dehydration

It manifests as a decrease in complexion radiance and discomfort in certain circumstances or seasons. If you are experiencing this skin state, treat yourself to a pampering break and follow a complexion routine with the application of a rich moisturizing mask.

Sensitivity

Sensitive skin is very reactive to external aggressors. It feels tight, has redness, and is easily irritated. To treat this temporary phenomenon, you must start by finding the root cause of your sensitivity and adapt your skincare routine by being attentive to allergens and irritating ingredients to banish.

Adopt a simple and natural beauty routine; your skin will appreciate it.

Allergies, eczema

Eczema is a common dermatosis. It is characterized by calm periods and flare-ups. Crisis periods cause persistent, intense itching. It is therefore important to adopt a gentle and minimalist ritual to avoid any reaction and soothe itching crises.

Couperose, rosacea

This is a skin condition that causes redness and irritation on the face. Flushes, or heat, and intermittent redness are early signs of couperose. The later appearance of telangiectasia is characteristic of rosacea, meaning a dilation of small blood vessels located near the surface of the skin. This vascular abnormality is characterized by redness on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin.

Rosacea is always accompanied by flushes—that sensation of heat—and couperose, meaning the dilation of blood vessels. In addition to a bespoke ritual to treat rosacea, you will need to act on triggers, adopt strict sun protection, avoid heat or cold if possible, spicy foods, alcohol, and learn to manage stress.

Acne

Acne is a skin disease characterized by the appearance of blemishes and red pimples, which are the consequence of inflammation due to the proliferation of microbial agents on the face, chest, or back. When your skin is acne-prone, the sebaceous glands go into overdrive and start producing too much sebum, and the skin becomes oilier and shinier. Furthermore, the canal becomes clogged and the sebum remains trapped, forming an open comedo (blackhead) or a closed comedo (whitehead). Oily and combination skin types are the most affected.

To treat acne, it is essential to adopt a gentle routine, using organic cosmetic products recommended by dermatologists.

Seborrheic dermatitis

This inflammatory disease is recognized by greasy scales in the eyebrows and sides of the nose, due to a proliferation of yeast caused by stress and inappropriate hygiene measures. Symptoms manifest as red, scaly patches, particles flaking off the patches, and itching at the site of the lesions.

The acne ritual can be adopted because it respects the skin's natural barrier.

First signs of aging

Wrinkles are THE major marker, but the first signs of aging also manifest through loss of volume and firmness, a dull complexion, and sagging skin. This can be localized on the forehead, at the corners of the lips, at the corners of the eyes, but also on the neck and décolleté.

Superficial at first, wrinkles will spread and deepen over time. A lack of hydration promotes the first signs of aging. It is therefore important to have a ritual adapted to delay skin aging.

Established wrinkles

The skin, as a barrier organ, is exposed to agents that promote the degradation of cell functions (UV, weather, pollutants). Senescent cells incapable of renewing themselves accumulate over time and are responsible for the appearance of aged skin, which is characterized by thin and dehydrated skin, a blotchy complexion with small, more or less dark spots associated with dilated vessels and sagging skin.

Over time, the entire architecture of the skin changes and structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin, decrease. A comprehensive anti-aging ritual will allow you to age with grace and harmony.
